EU Suspends Financial Support for Israel

The European Union has announced its suspension of financial aid to Israel. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who mentioned that the decision was associated with the intensification of violence in the Gaza Strip and the need to put an end to the violence.

According to the head of the EC, this includes future yearly budgets in the years 2025-2027, as well as continuous institutional cooperation projects with Israel and programs implemented under the EU-Israel Regional Cooperation Mechanism.

The only exceptions are humanitarian projects and the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial complex. These areas will continue to receive European funding.

Ursula von der Leyen noted that the horrific events taking place in Gaza on a daily basis ‘must stop.’ She called for an immediate ceasefire, unhindered access for humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
