Uzbekistan is rapidly growing a green economy

As for 2025, €22 billion were invested in Uzbekistan’s energy transition and 40 agreements were signed. According to government data, renewables are expected to make up to 54% of the country’s total energy production cutting CO2 emissions by more than half.

One of the largest Uzbekistan’s solar power plants, Bukhara Site Solar PV Park, has more than 860,000 panels. It is located in Bukhara region due to the proximity to the city Bukhara. The city has a population of about 300,000 people, which makes it attractive for the construction of solar panels. For example, China has invested in this project more than €365 million. The energy produced thanks to Bukhara Site Solar PV Park in a year can power up to 400,000 homes. Compared with natural gas consumption it will reduce 1.2 million tons of carbon dioxide emission each year. Bukhara Site Solar PV Park is one of 11 solar sites operating in Uzbekistan alongside wind plants. Green power energy is being generated across 10 regions out of 12.

By 2030, Uzbekistan is expecting to have an energy surplus, which they are planning to sell to Europe. The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed an agreement for a partnership with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan at the COP-29 summit.

Uzbekistan has great conditions to green its economy thanks to its climate and abundance of sunshine. Reducing the use of coal and natural gas and switching to renewable energy will help to reach almost zero emission. For the moment, Uzbekistan has a potential to become a regional leader in renewable energy.
