{"id":5241,"date":"2025-06-03T19:21:16","date_gmt":"2025-06-03T18:21:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mondevudailleurs.ae\/?p=5241"},"modified":"2025-06-03T19:23:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T18:23:08","slug":"uk-threatened-a-russian-oligarch-with-a-lawsuit-if-he-does-not-allow-the-money-from-the-sale-of-chelsea-to-be-used-only-in-ukraine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mondevudailleurs.ae\/en\/uk-threatened-a-russian-oligarch-with-a-lawsuit-if-he-does-not-allow-the-money-from-the-sale-of-chelsea-to-be-used-only-in-ukraine\/","title":{"rendered":"UK threatened a Russian oligarch with a lawsuit if he does not allow the money from the sale of Chelsea to be used only in Ukraine"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"line-height:1.2\">The British government is ready to sue Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich if he doesn&#8217;t agree to accept paying \u00a32.5bn ($3.4bn) raised from the sale of London football club Chelsea to Ukraine. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/uk\/uk-threatens-sue-abramovich-over-use-money-chelsea-sale-2025-06-03\/\">Reuters<\/a> quotes this on the basis of a joint statement by British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves and Foreign Secretary David Lammy.<\/p>\n\n<p style=\"line-height:1.2\">After the beginning of war in Ukraine, Abramovich&#8217;s UK assets, including Chelsea football club, were frozen. Chelsea Football Club, which Abramovich owned since 2003, was sold by him in March 2022. He offered to sell the club on the condition that the sale proceeds would be given entirely to charitable organizations devoted to helping victims of war.  <\/p>\n\n<p style=\"line-height:1.2\">British authorities want the money to be spent only in Ukraine, including rebuilding what was destroyed by the Russian invasion. Abramovich believes the money should go to \u2018all victims of the war in Ukraine,\u2019 including those in Russia. The money is currently frozen in a bank account in the UK.
